About My Blog
Hi, I’m Dan Tucker and I’m glad you’re here.
I’m a 65-year-old Army veteran, public servant, and foster dad living in Oregon. I’ve been married over 45 years, raised an autistic son, and recently became the third home for our 16-year-old foster daughter. This blog was born from the real-life trenches of parenting teens through trauma, tech overload, and tough transitions.
“Old An Tucker” isn’t just a nickname—it’s a voice for older caregivers navigating modern challenges with old-school grit, new tools, and a big heart.
My Mission
To support fellow foster and adoptive parents (especially older dads) through honest stories, trauma-informed strategies, and digital tools that build connection, not chaos. My goal share my experiences in hope to help you stay present, curious, and confident as you raise resilient teens in a messy world.
Core Values
- Presence: Being the steady, reliable adult kids can count on.
- Acceptance: Embracing the child in front of you, not the one you imagined.
- Curiosity: Seeking to understand before trying to fix.
- Empathy: Parenting with connection—not control—as the compass.

Why I Write
Raising a teen with a history of trauma requires more than good intentions; it requires tools, reflection, and connection. I’ve learned the hard way that healing has no shortcuts. But there’s power in showing up, day after day, even when things feel broken.
This blog exists to help you do the same; with fewer regrets, more support, and a clear voice saying: “You are not alone.”
Let’s Connect
